It’s been quiet around here lately. Clearly I’m not radical enough for the Fatosphere folks and not interesting enough for the others
That’s what I think when I’m feeling insecure, anyhow. At the moment I’m reasonably buoyant, enjoying a piece of leftover cake from our favorite intern’s leaving do yesterday, and feeling quite content with the fact that autumn is upon us. With any luck the Vitamin D and antidepressants I’ve been taking will fend off the grey-weather-blues that seem to have descended upon me last winter, so that I won’t feel quite so draggy and miserable. I’m also hoping that we’ll get some lovely autumn color this year, as last year’s display was exquisite and it will be disappointing if everything just dries up and falls off this year!
Thankfully, this week is proving better than last week, although the office machine ran out of Diet Coke, which signals that the apocalypse is nigh. I’d like to know, really, why people drink the stuff – it’s even more full of nasty chemicals than regular soda, tastes like crap, and doesn’t make you lose any weight! If you’re diabetic, sure…but otherwise, just spring for the stuff in the red can. Seriously.
There we go. Another non-radical, non-interesting post from me…anybody out there?!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake.
OMG?! REGULAR COKE OVER DIET?!
you renegade you!
I know – I should wear a paper bag over my fat, fat head for daring to say so… *sobs*
Actually, what’s amusing is that for all I fill up that machine (we went through 44 blinking cans of diet Coke last week!!), I think I have a soda out of it maybe once a month at the most. Root beer is my beverage of choice (and not diet Barq’s
)
It was good. I took too large a slice, though, and now I feel vaguely ill. Mmm, chocolate icing!!!
Diet soda is awful. Unless you have to drink it for diabetic reasons, stay away from that crap and enjoy the full flavor stuff!
I agree – diet also has that foul aftertaste (at least for those of us who notice it…apparently a lot of people don’t!)
The heck with the red can, give me the glass bottle with the Mexican Coke in it! But I guess in an office when you’re limited to vending machine offerings, you take what they give you.
It’s funny, I drank diet for years and didn’t allow myself to admit to myself just how much I hated it. I (usually) hate it. Once every few months I’ll want some, and then I’ll remember what I disliked about it. The aftertaste. Bleh. HFCS has an aftertaste too, to me, but not as yucky.
There was a Mad Men episode recently that was set in 1963 and featured an old-time Dr. Pepper machine with “10, 2, 4″ written on it. Apparently those were the times of day (all three) you were encouraged to have one! So why wasn’t anyone fat then? (/sarcasm)
Hey, I posted twice on the books post!
Am I really the only fatty in the universe who truly prefers the taste of diet soda to regular? I started drinking the stuff when I was about twelve, and yes, it was in an attempt to lose weight. FAIL. But more than 20 years later, I really can’t stand most regular sodas. They leave a coating on my teeth and tongue and make me want to urp. Mountain Dew and root beer are exceptions. I don’t like Diet Coke but will choose it over regular Coke any day (if those are my only choices–Diet Dr. Pepper is the best!).
I know there are people who do like it better – for me the aftertaste is just so awful that there’s no way I could drink a diet beverage! I don’t eat sugar-free anything for the same reason, because of the artificial sweetener taste.
Diet Dr. Pepper is the best of a bad lot, it’s true!
You did know I loves you, right?
Also, I’m realizing it’s entirely possible you reply to my comments over here and then because I don’t click back on the post again I don’t see the replies. Hmm…
When the choice is either Diet Coke or US-style HFCS Coke, I’ll take the Diet anyday. I just can’t stand Coke (or Pepsi, or any knock-offs) in the States – it’s sickeningly sweet to my taste. But, like Meowser, I’ll take real cane sugar Mexican or Central American Coke over either Diet or HFCS Coke any day of the week!
Fantine, no, you’re not the only one. With saccharine-sweetened diet pop I had problems with the aftertaste (and yes, I noticed that saccharine-sweetened pops often had citrus flavors – Pepsi Light had a strong lemon flavoring, Fresca is grapefruit-flavored, etc) but not the more recent sweeteners.
But what really sold me on diet pop was when they took Coke off the market
Diet Coke wasn’t exactly the same, but it was a lot closer than New Coke! By the time they brought Coke Classic out I couldn’t stand non-diet pop any more. (And yes I’ve tried the Kosher for Passover “real sugar” Coke and it’s as sickly sweet as the HFCS. Ew.)
Yep, and hey I’m down with cake, it’s in my blog title!
Hey Heidi -How about West African Coke in glass bottles? remember that? Good stuff! I once visited the bottling plant in Ouagadougou -it was very interesting….and reassuringly clean.
My favorite beverage is Diet Dr. Pepper. But that’s probably because i can so seldom have it.
Mostly I drink water or herbal tea.
I’m glad you are feeling cheerful and optimistic. I hope the meds and vitamins really do help!
