31 March, 1999 Vagaries I'm back to repeat play of that Modern Talking CD I was obsessed with earlier this month. Different song this time though, a catchy little ditty called "Inshaire" with a disco back-beat reminiscent of middle eastern wind instruments. I am under no illusions that this is great stuff. But it sure helps make the day go by more quickly. It also puts me in a good mood -- energetic beats seem to pump up my own energy level. Probably because I'd rather be dancing to said music than listening to it. Things are coming together slowly but surely. Last night I finally managed to get in touch with my good friend Winnie, who has been MIA for several months. I was planning on spending some time with her in Chicago, since she lives there and I needed to make her aware of my plans. Here is an excerpt from the e-mail I got from her boyfriend: It is easy for me to get in touch with Winnie, because she is standing right next to me right now. One would assume that that location would be in Austria, however, this could also Blacksburg, VA... :) Winnie it turns out, flew to Baltimore a few days ago and then drove to the south-western reaches of Virginia. She's staying for a month. Ordinarily I'd be ecstatic -- she's only four hours away instead of 12. However this puts a serious stick in my wheels regarding Chicago. To boot, I'm mildly put out (but only VERY mildly) that she didn't call to say she was coming to Virginia. She drove past the Alexandria exit on I-95 which is spitting distance from my house and thought about me, but was afraid she'd get lost so pushed on southward. Life is just full of these interesting little paradox/coincidences. I finally manage to find my way to Chicago and the girl ain't there! Poetic justice. Heh. Anyway, I'm still going to Chicago except that now I have a whole weekend there all by my lonesome. Granted, there are scads of things for a fairly well-adjusted, intellectual gal, to do in Chicago. But somehow the excitement of the trip has gone out of it. I like to do these things WITH other people you see -- preferably friends. Ah well -- I'll probably wind up holing up in the hotel with the laptop and some pay-per-view movies and just relax per the suggestion of one online pen-pal. And so yet another month comes to an end ... with some goals accomplished and others still lying in ruins. |
