La La La

That title can either mean the theme song to MTV's Daria or the WB's Felicity in my head at the moment.

They seem to be alternating quite nicely in there right now. You could also include such great tunes as "Brown-Eyed Girl" ... come on everybody, sing with me now, 'Sha-la-la-la-la la-la la-la-la di-da, la-di-da," then seque neatly into Sebastian crooning to Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

But that wouldn't come close to describing my mental state, only my mental soundtrack. Right now I think the best way to describe me would be "dazed and confused" no doubt the result of spending the day burined deep withing our sagging couch while watching most of Daria Day on MTV followed by a long session of sewing together Star Wars costumes in the later afternoon.

Much as I love those films, I'll be glad of the day when I don't have to put together another pair of desert-colored pants for a Jedi outfit for a while. Don't even get me started on how it feels to piece together one of those hooded cloaks. Sure the shapes are easy, but getting all the pieces to line up nicely and then hand-finishing the inside seams ... well ... guh, it's work.

On my birthday my mother brought me a basket full of potted, blooming Iris.

Two days later all that remained wwere the blunted, chewed-off stumps of the leaves and stems.

Mephisto has a new obsession: eating my plants.

Subsequently I transferred almost all of the bulbs from the small plastic pot they came in, to a large terra-cotta bowl-type thingie I was growing herbs in over the summer. It's sitting in a sunny spot here in the study now and the cats have been summarily banned from the room.

Well, not quite. Phishy also seems to have developed hyper-attachment disorder, otherwise known as: PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE OUT HERE!!!

This last yowled very loudly in cat-ese at 4am whilst being accompanied by many scratchings at the door. The clever little bast*** has also gotten very quick when following the big klutzy humans about the apartment. I can't seem to open doors and get through them without him following me. Hence he made into the study on this last trip into computer land.

Fortunately, much scolding dissuaded him from staying on the sewing table with my projects and the plants. Instead he's been snoring away for the past two hours in my brand new super-comfy office chair. Of course he looks adorable with his little white paws covering his eyes and his tail going twitch-twitch every now and then, so I haven't the heart to disturb him. He's so rarely this calm now-a-days.

Tomorrow of course, is the big day.

New job. New training and class at 5:30.

AAAAAAACK!

I'm nervous, I'm excited and I'm scared out of my mind.

Thank goodness I do have Phishy in here to remind about what's important in life: sleep and lots of good treats.
